Hello Helicuties!

What is a Helicutie you may ask?

Helicutie= Helix + Cutie. Anyone who likes science and reads this blog is a Helicutie!

We created this blog to share with you our journey in life and in STEM. We are navigating this experience as women, as first-generation students, as siblings, and as friends who drink way too much chai tea.  We have lots of exciting posts and content for you coming soon!

Nice to meet you, Helicutie! My name is Phuong (as in Ty-Phoon), and I’m a 3rd year PhD student in the Molecular Engineering program at UW. I got my bachelors in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford and my masters at UW. My research interests include biomaterials and drug delivery, which are both topics that I am excited to share with you all! When I’m not in lab I like to read novels, sip on chai tea, care for my growing indoor plant collection, and hike around Seattle’s numerous trails.

Hey, Helicuties! My name is Ayumi (Eye-You-Me) and I’m a 3rd year grad student at the University of Washington. I’m in the Molecular Engineering program and my focus is on drug delivery for improved treatment of infectious disease. I got my bachelors in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Arizona. I love biology (especially infectious disease biology), and organic chemistry. I'm a desert girl but I love living in the PNW. In my free time, I like to dance, hike, watch trashy tv, and cook.
